MAGNETIC FANTASIES Free Access Data BB
---------------------------------------

It is run on an APPLE ][ with a DC HAYES MICROMODEN II, THUNDERCLOCK
PLUS, CALL--A.P.P.L.E. LOWERCASE CHIP, and an 8" drive.

We are located in Los Angeles, Calif. and are on line 24 hours a day.

This system is run by tvn humans, three elves, and hindered by a pain-in-the-
a** dwarf.

We are striving to have an unusual and distinctive type of BBS, by being
Fantasy and Adventuring orientated.

We'd appreciate it if you would not put bulletins on this system which are
inappropriate.

Since fantasy is a broad subject, we do not consider announcements of other
BBS's as inappropriate for this system.

All sales and trading bulletins are deleted per the request of our users.

The mail section is unrestricted in regards to either language or subject.

If you are giving hints to anyone about a game, please direct the hint
into the mail section to the person involved. We do not want to ruin the
game for anyone who does not want to get hints.

If strange things happen to you or when in the (C)hat mode you are
insulted we would suggest you read "Sir Twitt" in the special section.

MTV: Can you give me some more information on this? I would
like to look at this.

General Motors in Detroit owns Pac*it+. The 234 and 727 exchanges
belong to MCI and are using FGD successfully. GM recieves a printout
of everyone that calls pac*it and proceeds to bust some of the people
that aren't in Detroit. Don't ask me why because I don't know. I have
inside information about pac*it busts and some other stuff like that.
Unless you're calling via divertors that you trust, I'd stay away from
Pac*it.

Here are some accounts on Tymnet that I don't have passwords for yet:
sched
dbsched
check 'em out and let me know if you find anything.

In case you haven't noticed, Pac*it (both of the numbers)
are on MCI exchanges. I think everyone knows just what FG-D is.
People just don't seem to get it! Using pac*it, even though it
requires no passwords, is just the same as breaking into a house
with no locks on the doors. It doesn't belong to you and you don't
have permission to use it. Don't be fooling yourself. You ARE
breaking the law when you call pac*it. Silencer, I would suggest
that you see a lawyer of you continue to use pac*it direct.

Someone, please tell me what a 'GLENAYRE 41D TERMINAL' is.
I have heard one suggestion that it is a VMB computer, but I don't know.
It is basically a database that stores phone numbers and various
attributes for that number.

One more thing: I need some reccomendations on a couple of really
good phreak / hack boards. By pheaking I don't mean pseudo-pheak
topics like how to set up Code Theif or something...I want some
people who are actually knowledgable and can answer a couple of
advanced questions once in a while. Hacking...what is a good
place to call where I could talk to some people about a bunch
of really obscure operating systems?

Silencer, that's like saying that dialing ANY number is legal.
Which is thoroughly wrong. Dialing any number without legal

If there were a 950 that didnt use codez but all you had to fdo was

I have added a warning to the Pac*It + post. You can rest easy tonight. :-)

Remember that MOST people call thru an extender or divertor so it is not nearly
as unsafe as you are getting at Obelisk. Witholding information is NOT
what makes a good codeline, therefore I have opted to leave it on the
update ,but now with a warning.

is much safer than using an MCI Feature Group 'D' line anyday!

I dont think the 234 calls overseas NUAs...

Hi All!
've been having troubles with the 312AC PCP in the last
few days.. I used it to call a Public Access Unix located in
Orland Park (Chicago) - exchange 301 - which had recently changed
its area code to 708, but now I can't get thorugh anymore.
I don't think the system is down, so it must be due to PCP problems...
Maybe they have made a new 708 PCP? Or do I have to dial 1-708-xxx-xxxx?
Please help me!

I THINK THAT A PHASER HIT WOULDN'T HAVE CAUSED ANY DAMAGE AT ALL TO THE BORG
SHIP. AFTER ALL THEY DID HIT IT WITH SEVERAL PHOTON TORPEDEOS AND IT DIDN'T DO
ANY DAMAGE. I WOULD HAVE HANDLED THE SITUATION DIFFERENTLY BUT IN ANY CASE, IF
THE BORG ARE COMING, THEN THE FEDERATION HAD BETTER MAKE SOME ADVANCES AND GET
READY.

I don't think Wesley is Picard's natural son, no more than is Riker. However,
Wesley, Riker, and Picard are supposed to represent the same type of character
at three different stages in his life, IMHO.
My reasons are that never in the first season was there any hint that Picard
and Beverly Crusher had met other than when Picard acted as an escort for the
remains of her husband (sorry, forget what his name was). He had been a
shipmate of Wesley's father, and probably a friend, of course.
There were no bones about a previous relationship between Riker and Deanna
Troi, so the fact that nothing about Picard and Beverly Crusher was brought
forth is probably significant.
If the rumored future episode which brings Beverly back is as I hear, the plot
will involve a conflict with Pulaski, not a reprise of an old affair with
Picard. At least that is what I have heard.

Interesting point about Wesley, Riker and Picard being the same character! I'll
have to go back and look at the old episodes aga

Herb,
If you have ATT sign up for Reach Out America, it more then pays for
itself. NJ Bell has nothing like it and it cost me more to call some
BBS's in NJ then here in Pennslavania, as a matter of fact, anywhere in
the USA outside of my calling area is the same. Calling Washinton State
for 1hr is the same as calling Phila. less then 60 miles. The
restrictions aren't to bad, after 10pm during the week, and almost the
whole weekend. Also call the "Right Choice" at 201-974-8317 and use
Q-Mail, that saves a bundle read off line.

I have recived my phone bill, and it wasn't to bad. $140.00 for all my
long distance calls, maintance and payments on two phone lines is
inexspensive therpy, my part of the bill came to about $50.00 much
cheaper then drugs, and mind expanding not damaging. If I keep the calls
to a cycle(most of the time) and watch my long distance to some
moderation it's not bad.

Allan,
I don't know why the modem has become the majority of my computer
use, it shouldn't, but it's ,like being able to look around communcate
and maybe its because it's safe, not unlike the early to mid 70's and

Hi, nice to hear a friendly voice. The classes at CLC last 6 months and
they are very instense. You get a lot of hands on training and plent of
homework. They only teach progromming and operations. RETS would teach
computer repair. BTW: The prices are about the same for CLC and RETS.
Later!

Message #6501
To BRUCE FRANK 03-18-90
From DOUG PONGRACZ Subject (R)GREETINGS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, but if you talked to the
people at CLC they use the word intense a lot. They're no lying. I look
into both CLC and Chubb. I chose CLC because they are better know in the
area since Chubb just came here from New England. I just finished my
Assembler classes. You only get about 18 days on any language some even
less. It is enough to get you started in the language, but all the
employers I have spoken to tell me that they put all new programmers
through some type of training after hiring. CIGNA the insurance company
came in with one of their head programmers (a CLC grad) and one of their
V.P.'s. They told us if we went to work for them we would get a two
month course from them.(They said someone coming from a college computer
science course would get a 6 month course because we get more hands on
training.) Now about the courses at CLC. I'm still waiting for my final
grade in Assembler, but I should get an A for the course. You get a lot
of material thrown at you very quickly, but you also have to use what you
are learnign to write programs while you are learning so it sinks in
pretty well. You get plenty of homework. My next class will start on
Tues. the 20th and will be JCL (Job Control Language). We only get 9
days of this, because we could screw up their system to badly if we knew
to much and it can vary pretty much from system to system. We will then
get 9 days of C which I figure is just about long enough to learn how to
spell it. They have just started teaching C so the course is still being
modified. We will be doing C on the PCs at school. We will then go into
COBOL which is in two sessions each, I think, about 18 days long. This
is the language both schools stress since they are training us for
bussiness programming. Included in the COBOL will be some CICS which fro
(try again) from what I understand can be used to make COBOL more
interactive. If I get a chance I'll try to give you a call as it would
be easier to talk about this by voice. Later!

I attended the PACS computer festival yesterday, and found a number of
interesting SIGs. I shall be joining PACS and the IBM SIG amoungst
others. My first degree in in Comp Sci, although my schooling and
employment during school is all of the serious programming and logic
design that I ever again want to have to do. I work in the entertainment
field, and my performances are split about half between the casinos and
half in clubs, conventions, resorts, trade shows, and private parties,
all around this part of the country.

Things are run alot differently here than you might expect from a
Commodore board.

This is a serious BBS run on a pretty nonserious computer.

I hope you will put up with the inconveniences of the Commodore's
(and my wallet's) limited capabilities. The Commodore would not today
be my computer of choice, however I am stuck with it. I got the
computer in the early 80's (81 or 82), when it was the best deal on
the market. I cannot afford expanders or a new system because I am
presenly saving for college (Yes, I plan to pay my own way in part).
I hope you do not disregard this bbs for that reason.

Please punctuate your messages and spell the best that you can
and take care NOT TO USE ALL CAPITALS! When you call here, please
turn off your caps lock, because it becomes annoying for other users.
Also, keep profanity to a minimum. IMMATURE WARS OR UNINTELLEGENT
COMMENTARY, WARS, NAME CALLING, ETC. WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Now, let me tell you a little something about myself since in a
few minutes you are going to be asked the same.

My name is Chris Hizny. I live in Marlboro and am 17 years old
and a senior in high school (Marlboro High School).I've been using
computers since 82 and modems soon after that.Besides computers my
hobbies include poltitics, camping & fishing, Classic Rock music,
and shooting.I'm a practicing Catholic from a middle class closely
knit conservative family. I like the TV shows: The Wonder Years,
Wiseguy,Married With Children,Tour of Duty,Doctor Doctor, and many
older reruns. I think I'm a pretty nice guy overall.

Well, thanks for reading, and remember - this is one of the few
adult Commodore BBSes around.
Regards,
Chris Hizny (Your Sysop)

DATABASE SUBSYSTEM

In the Database subsystem, you can search each database on items of
interest. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time and or resources to
devote to this important area of the board. Curently all that is
available at present is a 5000+ listing of BBS's across the country.
Future plans include, a restaurant listing, Airline information, a
computer store, etc... Please be patient, thats a lot of information
to input, and will take some time to accomplish. As I shop around other
BBS's, I will look for things that you have indicated an interest in.

At any time while searching a CTRL-C will terminate the search. You
will probably need it, if you go into the BBS's database and search on
a very generic string.

========================================================================

A. Airline Information
B. BBS Listing (over 5000 entries!)
M. ZOO Membership Database
N. ZOO News and features
P. PC Magazine programs and utilities information
-> Resume listing: <Y>es, <N>o, <C>ontinuous, <Q>uit?
R. Restaurant Listings (to come)
O. On-Line Computer Store (to come)

-> Enter name of category, <L> to list them, or <RETURN> to quit:

This is where you can search for the phone numbers to other BBS's
using keywords which can be numbers, names and the state or
country's initials, (Without periods). A minimum of one
characters must be entered to search.

Examples:

States can be searched for by ititials, NEB = Nebraskas
Countries can be searched for by initals, ENG = England
Area codes can be searched for by using, (XXX), where XXX is the area code.
Systems can also be searched for by entering the name you wish to find,
the more information provided provides a tighter search.
Entering, Apple, Would give you all the systems with Apple in the name.
Entering, Apple Cider, would only show you this system's listing.

As you can see, you have a very powerful database that allows you to
Search by any combination of search keys. (This is great if you've
decided to start a BBS and want to have a name that no one else is
using)!
